Government's Anti-Social Behaviour Plan

Yesterday, the Government announced their anti-social behaviour action plan, establishing a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour, ensuring people feel safe in the place they call home.

Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable. It prevents people from spending time in their local area, makes women and girls feel unsafe, and erodes a sense of community. Tackling this crime is key to levelling up and restoring pride in local communities.

That is the Government is cracking down on offenders with swifter and more visible justice, tougher punishments, a ban on nitrous oxide, a stronger policing response in anti-social behaviour hotspots, and new tools for communities to regenerate and restore local pride.

To support these measures, the Government is rolling out pilots in a number of areas. I am particularly pleased to announce that Northumbria PCC has been selected to participate in the Immediate Justice pilot, which will establish new immediate justice pathways aimed at delivering swift, visible punishment for anti-social behaviour.

Tackling anti-social behaviour requires a strong and effective partnership response from all agencies working together. The measures outlined in the Anti-social Behaviour Action Plan give the police, local authorities, and other agencies a wide range of powers and tools to deal with every situation of anti-social behaviour that may arise. I am proud to support this plan and I am confident that it will make a real difference in restoring the right of people to feel safe and proud of their local area.
